Choose for the screen in front of you
A phone on mobile data and a large television on a stable home connection present different trade-offs. 720p or 1080p can be a practical choice when supported; selected 4K editions need compatible content, service access and hardware. A high-resolution screen cannot make a lower-resolution source native 4K.
Look beyond the number
Compression can soften faces, smear movement and break up dark scenes. A well-encoded 1080p picture may look more convincing than a heavily compressed file bearing a larger resolution label. HDR is also separate from pixel dimensions and needs compatible playback throughout the chain.
Buffering is not always a size problem
Other downloads, weak Wi-Fi, congestion or the viewing service itself can interrupt playback. Try Auto quality where offered and compare another title. If every title stalls, investigate the connection; if only one stalls, inspect that edition.
